25 years VCE

Back to 1994, our founding year: At that time, digitization was still a foreign word. Instead of online trade, there were mail order catalogues. Nobody expected next-day deliveries, instead you had to pick up orders from the local Otto or Neckermann store. 

So there was no need for multi-carrier management. The warehouses were filled according to experience, the goods arrived when it arrived. Nowadays, it goes without saying for the end customer that his goods are delivered directly to his home the next day. Today, a company with the attitude of “hope that the truck will come soon” or with manual time slot management would quickly be offside.

To remain competitive, logistics processes must be continuously optimized, often with the help of special software. We have not only been able to accompany this exciting development over the past 25 years, but also to help shape it. In 1994, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jünemann and other engineers and computer scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics founded the present VCE GmbH. This was followed by projects in the field of warehouse planning and transport logistics, and a little later by increased automation and software development.

Our focus on the optimization of logistical processes has remained. Methods and technology have changed. We continue to support our customers to be one step ahead of their time, to use time efficiently, to save resources and of course to maximize sales. The IT sector has grown more and more – we no longer offer only consulting services for logistics software and individualization of existing solutions, but with VCE Solutions we also offer our own software products. Our team consists of specialists from logistics and IT development. Many of our colleagues have been with us for several years – the record, by the way, is set by Dr. Bernhard van Bonn, who has been with us as members of the management board from the very beginning, and our secretary Stella Perakis, who has been with VCE for 20 years.
